Welcome to My World......

This is my first entry to my new blog and I am really excited, been doing abit of research looking at the displays of other
crafty people and some of them are amazing. On my blog spot there are a variety of pics which includes my wonderful little world which is my studio at Drumcroon Art Gallery Wigan, I am so proud of my studio. Finally I have a space to call my own and work without having to pack away all my stuff each time my family want to use the back kitchen table!!! and believe me I have been there many a time and the creative spirit dampens in time. Well my creative spirit at Drumcroon is well and truly on the rise to better things........

Unique Finds......

hi all you craft people.....

I've just been on the search for some more unique finds, I've come across an old tin and a tailor brush...... I have a lot of these unique finds in my studio and I love it, some where some place these objects have been in someone else's possession and given a history.........

I reckon there are lots of great finds out there lurking underneath the couch or in the deepest parts of the shed......

Great finds are the best.....

Hi everyone,

happy times all around at the Home of a Textile Artist. I will be taking part in the Art of the Stitch Show in Birmingham at the end of May. I will be one of the Art Educators, displaying my work and then doing workshops for the visitors throughout the day. I am really looking forward to this has the Embroiders Guild have organised this for me and I am so proud to be apart of this organisation.

I an currently creating so more crafty things for the craft shop at Drumcroon Art Gallery and also for a Art and Craft Shop in Wales for a friend. All the other artists from Drumcroon are displaying their work at both places, if you want to take a look at our studio's then look us up on the Drumcroon web site or pop down and give us a visit........ hope to see ya.

This is my little home from home. I love it. i have my collection shelf which is in the background behind my sewing machine. all my unusual nick nacks that i find on my travels around the car boot sales and charity shops which i love to visit on most days home from work and teaching art workshops.

Art of the Stitch 2008

Hi all crafty people,

I've not been updating my blog for a while has I have been rather busy with workshops and art things!!! Just letting everyone no that I will be taking part in the Art of the Stitch 2008 has one of the art educators providing education on stitch and learning all about various stitches and the methods. I am looking forward to the two days that I am there. I will take lots of pictures and let everyone no about my experience. It will be a great two days and hopefully make lots of contacts for future work and build upon my career.
Welll gotta go lots of arts and craft things to be getting on with.......................

The Madness behind my work that becomes a work of craft.....

For me secound hand clothes and fabrics are more than just a good find its a starting point for my work. Much of my inspiration for my work comes from a mixture of social history and contemporary issues, when combining the two it translates into a thought provoking process for the viewer. A huge issues in the press over the past year is the size zero debate, I focuse on amassing images, articles and press releases as visual and contextual research for the production of one off gallery pieces which uses a combination of textile processes including digital print, applique, bonding and hand stitch embriodery.
My influences for my work also comes from television documentaries and books such as 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' by Jo & Alice Kingsley - the story of a young girl and her family's battle with anorexia and obsessive complusive disorder. Obsessive sewing of one particular stitch inherits the idea of odsessive complusive disorders. Repeating the same stitch over and over again adds detail but also gives underlying messages about the illness.
The fusing of ideas with fabrics designed for a little girl's furnishings indicates that from an early age young girls are subcinsciously bombarded with an ideal body type and look.
The final exhibition pieces is based on a body bag - the idea came from a discussion with a group of friends about the debates and the two paths a sufferer can take - one being the road to recovery and the other the road to death.
